Liebherr L 550 wheel loader
Liebherr L 550 wheel loader
The new Stage IIIA / Tier 4i Wheel Loader L 550 is right in the lead when it comes to economy and environmental friendliness. It uses up to 25% less fuel than comparable machines from other manufacturers, under the same operating conditions. Up to 8% of this fuel advantage is achieved thanks to the new “Liebherr Power Efficiency” (LPE) system. By intelligent management of the individual units, LPE reduces both fuel consumption and component wear, with the engine management under pro-active control and with all the engine map characteristics and parameters being taken into account. LPE recognizes the performance profile required by the operator, and puts it into action with maximum performance output, in the most efficient way possible. And thanks to the tried and trusted Liebherr travel drive, tyre wear is, as usual, reduced by up to 25%, and the service brake is practically free of wear altogether. Increased productivity thanks to first-class comfort and convenience: The cab is particularly spacious and comfortable. All the operating elements are ergonomically perfectly matched to one another, while the hydraulic cab bearing system substantially reduces vibrations and noise burden in the interior of the cab.

Komatsu showcases latest equipment

Saud Bahwan Projects & Equipment LLC, a leading distributor for construction and mining equipment in Oman recently showcased the latest Dash-8 series hydraulic excavators and Dash-5 series wheel loaders at a customer meet held at the Jabrin Ballroom, Hotel InterContinental, Muscat.

Hisataka Takao, managing director, Ashraf Hashish, general manager, marketing and Babak Javidani, general manager, Training, Komatsu, Middle East were present on the occasion.

The well attended evening commenced with an informative presentation on the state-of-art technology of Komatsu Dash-8 series hydraulic excavators and Komatsu Dash-5 series wheel loaders.

Talking about what makes Komatsu equipment different from the rest, Ashraf Hashish said, "Komatsu has always challenged itself to set a new industry standard with the introduction of every hydraulic excavator series.

From the legendary Dash-3 version of the 1980's right up through the Dash-7, Komatsu has led rather than followed. That is a trend we believe in and we are continuing the same with the new Dash-8s," he added.

The new Dash-8 hydraulic excavators meet new international construction equipment norms. The Komatsu Dash-8 design is built around operator safety, comfort and increased productivity over Dash-7 models, primarily because of improved cycle times and other hydraulic improvements that give outstanding overall efficiency.

These efficiencies include lesser fuel consumption and emissions when compared to the Dash-7.

This combined with impressive upgrades in information technology and operator comfort makes the Dash-8 and ideal machine that is built to suit a contractor's high productivity and low-cost operation directly contributing to the success of related businesses.

The Dash-5 models which are set to replace the Dash-3 range are significantly larger and more powerful. The introduction of the Dash-5 series wheel loaders is a solution from Komatsu for contractors who continuously look for various ways to boost production and reduce operating costs.

Komatsu kept these very concerns of the contractors in mind in engineered the new Dash-5 series wheel loaders line. The range of Komatsu wheel loaders includes the WA320-5 / WA430-5 / WA470-5 series.

Later in the evening, Takao spoke about the long and successful relationship that Komatsu and Saud Bahwan Group have shared. He also congratulated the group for its dominating market share which was achieved by winning the trust and loyalty of its customers.

He said, "I take this opportunity to thank our valuable customers for their constant support and active involvement in utilising world-class products from Komatsu, Japan.

I also take this opportunity to thank Sheikh Mohammed Saud Bahwan, chairman, Saud Bahwan Group for the dedicated and encouraging support being extended to Komatsu for over three decades."

The entire range of Komatsu features new, highly-efficient, environment-friendly engines.

Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia Unveils New Generation Hybrid Excavators

Hitachi Construction Machinery (Australia) Pty Ltd today announces the release of the first of its hybrid hydraulic excavators in the Australian market. The Hitachi ZH210-A and ZH210LC-A hybrid excavators represent decades of innovation, research and development in hydraulic, electric and battery-powered excavator technologies.

The shift toward hybrid technology in the automotive industry is now becoming increasingly popular within the earthmoving equipment sector. Engineered by Hitachi Construction Machinery, the new ZH210-A and ZH210LC-A hybrid models herald the start of a new generation of Hitachi excavators.

The new Hitachi hybrid excavators are equipped with an innovative TRIAS-HX hybrid system that combines Hitachi’s newly developed large capacity tri-pump control valve hydraulic and hybrid system. Using electric hybrid technology in conjunction with swing momentum to regenerate energy provides the ultimate platform to reducing fuel consumption.

The combination of regenerated electric power and hydraulic power to the swing motor is an exclusive feature to Hitachi.

In comparison to the standard ZX200-3 excavator featuring two pumps and two control valves, the new TRIAS-HX hybrid system provides increased performance, responsive operation and energy savings.

Generating 165 horsepower, the ZH210-A and ZH210LC-A models incorporate a four cylinder Isuzu diesel engine to deliver greater fuel reductions and higher productivity to operators in the 20-tonne excavator class.

This contributes to an annual reduction in CO2 emissions of 9.7* tonnes compared with the ZX200-3. Additionally, by selecting the eco-mode, engine speed can be decreased to provide even further fuel savings.

A monitoring system supports machine operation by highlighting fuel usage data on an average hourly and daily basis. In addition to energy-efficient operations, an automatic idling stop function cuts the engine during machine idling. This limits unnecessary fuel consumption, but also minimises exhaust emissions and noise levels.

Yusuke Kajita, General Manager of the Construction Equipment Development Centre at Hitachi Construction Machinery Co., Ltd., says, “Technically advanced machines make Hitachi stand out from the crowd. Advanced technology is necessary to maintain our position in the market – not just for the hydraulics and engine, but also for electrical technology.

“Hitachi is the largest electrical products manufacturer in Japan and so we are very strong in this area. When fossil fuels are in short supply and become more expensive, electrical technology will be the key to the future and we will be in an excellent position to capitalise on this."

An increased demand exists for earthmoving equipment manufacturers to design environmentally-sustainable technology. As part of a global commitment to the environment, particularly in emerging countries across the globe, Hitachi Construction Machinery continues to revolutionise and evolve its products to deliver innovative solutions to customers.

UAE-based Caterpillar dealer Unatrac signs $700 mln loan

Unatrac Holding, the distributor of Caterpillar equipment in eight mainly African countries, has signed a $700 million, three-year loan to fund operations and refinance existing debt, it said in a statement on Thursday.

Part of Egyptian conglomerate Mansour Group, Dubai-based Unatrac increased the size of the revolving credit facility from $600 million after receiving pledges from lenders worth double the target amount, it said.

Barclays, Citigroup and JP Morgan arranged the deal, which was joined by a dozen other banks during a marketing period for the firm's debut syndicated loan.

The loan pays an interest rate of 4 percent over the London interbank offered rate (Libor), Nader Aboushadi, group corporate treasurer at Unatrac, said in an emailed response to questions from Reuters.
Unatrac operates Caterpillar dealerships in Russia, Ghana, Nigeria, Iraq, Tanzania, Sierra Leone, Kenya and Uganda and has an annual turnover of $1.4 billion, according to a company profile. (Reporting by David French; Editing by Andrew Torchia)

Rio Tinto purchases China-made excavator parts

A Chinese heavy machinery manufacturer has delivered key excavator parts to Australian mining giant Rio Tinto.

Cao Keshun, spokesman for Taiyuan Heavy Machinery Group Co. (TZ), said the purchase marks Rio Tinto's first purchase of Chinese heavy-duty excavator parts.

"Rio Tinto is very strict with the quality of its mining equipment. TZ won the order with its advanced technology and competitive prices," Cao said.

The exported parts include two steel crawler plates that are used for heavy-duty excavators.

Founded in 1950, TZ was the first independent heavy-duty machinery manufacturing firm to be established in China. Its products have been exported to many countries around the world.

Caterpillar teams up with colleges to encourage students in science and engineering

A contruction equipment giant has formed a partnership with the Eastern Iowa Community Colleges, aiming to inspire young people to pursue careers in science and engineering.

Caterpillar has parked one of its newest bulldozers outside the colleges’ Advanced Technology Environmental and Energy Center in Davenport and set up a training simulator inside.

The company’s Scott Johnson says Caterpillar believes the emphasis in education today should be on
reading, science, math, and technical skills.

Johnson says, “Students who visit this lab will be the future engineers, the future innovators who will find new ways to help our customers be successful and do it in a way that supports sustainability.”

He hopes hands-on experience, including the simulator or even climbing on a large bulldozer, will help students choose technical careers. Don Doucette, chancellor of the Eastern Iowa Community Colleges, says a top priority is to work with companies so future workers have the right skills.

“Our goal is to harness the fun that will inspire future scientists and future engineers and future technicians and future inventors,” Doucette says. “What could be more fun than driving heavy equipment?”

The advanced technology center opened 20 years ago, with displays and programs focused on energy and environmental education, for students and teachers. Eastern Iowa Community Colleges has three campuses with about 9,000 total students at Muscatine Community College in Muscatine, Clinton Community College in Clinton, and Scott Community College in Bettendorf and Davenport.

CMW Attachments Secures Contract to Provide Excavator Buckets to Buckeye Minerals Mining Operations

US based excavator attachment manufacturer CMW Attachments announced today that it has secured a contract to manufacture and deliver large, severe-duty excavator buckets to Buckeye Minerals for their gold mining operations in Fairbanks, Alaska.

The first buckets were manufactured to fit their 100,000 Lb. Class Excavators. The severe duty excavator buckets were equipped with both heavy duty side cutters and edge protectors to provide durability and trouble free service in the extreme digging conditions of Buckeye's Alaska mining operation.  Each bucket was built with both flux-core and submerged arc welding processes to assure high tensile strength under even the most severe shear forces.

"We are very pleased to become an excavator attachment supplier for a fine company such as Buckeye.  We are looking forward to a continued, long term relationship with their entire team," said Michael Hayes, CMW Attachments General Manager.  "We are also extremely proud to manufacture the products right here in our South Carolina plant in the United States of America."
