Levenseat Ltd, the leading waste management and materials recycling
business, based at by Forth near Lanark in Scotland, has purchased the
first new Doosan DX380LC-3 39 tonne Stage IIIB compliant crawler
excavator in the UK waste and recycling industry. The DX380LC-3
excavator was supplied, together with a new Doosan DL200 wheel loader,
by Coatbridge-based Scotia Plant Ltd, the authorised Doosan and Bobcat
dealer for the central belt of Scotland.
With over 25 years of experience in the waste management industry, Levenseat has continuously expanded and adapted to match the demands of this dynamic industry and the purchase of the new Doosan equipment is part of the latest development of the company's recycling operations. Levenseat has been engaged in waste management operations since 1986 and currently processes approximately 250,000 tonne per year of a range of waste products including household, commercial, industrial, inert and organic materials.
Angus Hamilton, Development Director at Levenseat Ltd, said: "The new Doosan DX380LC-3 model has replaced a previous generation Doosan DX340LC excavator we purchased four years ago. We have moved to a bigger machine with the DX380LC-3 excavator, offering a 40 tonne plus class size undercarriage for optimum stability and a 15% increase in drawbar pull and a 15% increase in front lifting capacity over the previous DX380LC model, to give us extra performance, strength and durability to cover all the applications at Levenseat."
In addition to offering outstanding performance levels and exceptional fuel efficiency compared to other machines in the 34 to 42 tonne market segment, the new Stage IIIB compliant DX380LC-3 excavator offers as standard several features which rank among the best on the market, including improved visibility, comfort, controllability and ease of operation. A new joggle/shuttle control is a worldwide exclusive feature on new generation Doosan excavators.
The DX380LC-3 excavator is powered by the Doosan DL08K 'common rail' 6-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine meeting Stage IIIB engine emission regulations through the use of EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) and Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) after-treatment technologies. Combined with an 8% increase in torque, the Doosan DL08K engine delivers 5% more power [213 kW (286 HP)] at a lower (6% less) RPM of 1800.
The Doosan DX380LC-3 excavator also features new D-ECOPOWER technology, providing operators with increases in productivity and fuel efficiency, as well as smoother controls. D-ECOPOWER technology utilises an electronic pressure-controlled pump within a closed centre hydraulic system to accomplish increases of up to 26% in productivity and up to 12% fuel consumption improvements, depending on the mode selected. A closed centred main control valve minimises pressure loss, while the electric pressure-controlled pump manages and optimises engine power more effectively.

"The new machine is currently working on preparing the next cell in our landfill operation but we envisage that the DX380LC-3 excavator will feature heavily in the future development of our recycling operations. The new Doosan DL200 wheel loader is working on our washplant and is ideally sized for this application, in which we produce and clean graded aggregate for sale from externally supplied gully wastes, street sweepings and construction and demolition waste."
The Levenseat Waste Management Site comprises a fully engineered 2 million m3 landfill (non-hazardous wastes) and a 5 hectare materials recycling facility. Levenseat is committed to on-going enhancement of the company's facilities and improvement of the service it provides to both private sector customers and local authorities.

To support the new Doosan machines, Levenseat has taken out an extended warranty agreement with Scotia Plant covering all service and maintenance work for the next three years.

The company carries most essential spare parts and provides a back-up service with rapid delivery for other items. Customers benefit from the company's on-site service network, covering everything from emergency repairs to routine maintenance.
